Surfacing choices
Stone used in resin bound paving is usually supplied in bags weighing no more than 25kg. The stone has been washed and dried and must not contain any extraneous material that could result in surface staining. There are several suppliers of suitable stone in the UK. As well as crushed rock such as granite or rounded ‘pebbles’ marble and recycled tumbled glass is also used.
Stone can be used individually with combinations to achieve blends that are capable of sustaining loads from cars. A surface scatter of crushed fine glass or aluminium oxide can be used to improve slip resistance.
Tree pit surfacing is not intended to receive any more that random pedestrian loading. If in a highly pedestrianised area a smaller stone should be considered.
Each is available in a mixes suitable for high pedestrian, light vehicle and turning vehicle situations. Please consult Optus for assistance if required.
