Decorative Resin Bound Paving

product image :: decorative surfacing - decorative surfacing used on a drivewayNatural stone mixed with resin and trowelled in one thick layer onto footpaths, drives, patios, pedestrian concourses and the like where an attractive but load bearing and permeable surface course is required.

Optus Resin Bound Paving is a trowel applied bonded stone that forms a solid but flexible surface course on any paved area. Clear polyurethane resins which are resistant to the sun's rays bond together natural stone aggregate to form an attractive stable surface layer. A solution which transforms existing hardstandings such as bitmac or concrete.

Optus Resin Bound Paving benefits from the many effects that can be achieved using the wide range of natural stone that is available individually or in combinations. This can be complemented by the use of recycled crushed glass which is available in more vibrant colours.

Optus Resin Bound Paving has been developed for use in various environments including:

  • pedestrian precincts
  • footpaths
  • patios
  • forecourts

  • Flexible - accommodating movement of substrate
  • Rapid cure - minimal disruption to traffic
  • Low temperature cure - greater scope of use
  • Low hazard materials - no solvents or heat
  • Versatile - can be laid onto a variety of substrates with a variety of size and types of stone in any number of patterns and designs
  • Enhanced surface texture - better grip, fewer accidents
  • Easy to lay
  • No loose stones - vandal proof

Application

  • the existing surface is prepared – free from contaminants and dry
  • the selected dry aggregate/stone is placed in an ordinary drum or paddle mixer
  • resin and hardener are mixed together and poured over the stone
  • after mixing the material is poured onto the surface and trowelled into place
  • for additional anti-slip properties the final surface is sprinkled with dry sand

(For new construction refer to design guidelines for thickness of paving and road base.)

Coverage

Coverage rate varies with depth, stone type and stone size.

Typical coverage rates are as follows:

75kg of 2-5mm size stone combined with 3.1kg of resin (4%), 3.95kg (5%) or 4.85kg (6%) is sufficient for the following areas:

  • 15mm deep: 2.90m2
  • 20mm deep: 2.35m2
  • 30mm deep: 1.50m2
  • 40mm deep: 1.10m2
  • 50mm deep: 0.85m2
  • 60mm deep: 0.70m2
  • 70mm deep: 0.60m2

One 3.1kg unit of resin combined with 50kg of close graded stone up to 6mm size and with smaller sizes of stone is sufficient for the following areas:

  • 15mm deep: 1.93m2
  • 20mm deep: 1.57m2
  • 30mm deep: 1.00m2
  • 40mm deep: 0.73m2
  • 50mm deep: 0.57m2
  • 60mm deep: 0.47m2
  • 70mm deep: 0.40m2
