Decorative Eurogrip

Decorative coatings for drives, pathways, pedestrian concourses, patios and other areas where an attractive surface appearance is required

Eurogrip Decorative is a polyurethane surface dressing material that combines tough but flexible polyurethane resins with a range of attractive stones/aggregates.

The surface has a natural look sue to the stone that is very hard wearing and requires little maintenance in normal use.

Unlike many systems, Eurogrip Decorative cures very quickly, disruption is minimal and a surface can be returned to full use in about 3 hours depending on temperature. It will also cure at low temperatures, has excellent adhesion qualities and does not embrittle with age.

Technical Properties

• Relative density at 20^oC: 1.6

Tensile properties to BS 2782 Pt3 after curing for 14 days in air:

• Tensile strength: 4.5 N/mm²
• Elongation at break: 60% min

Adhesion properties to BS 24624:1993, pull-off test at 5 days:

• To timber: 2 N/mm²
• To concrete: 2 N/mm²
• To bitumen macadam: N/A
• To steel: 5 N/mm²

Application

Ambient temperature should be between 5 and 30^oC during application and cure. Dry weather conditions and a dry substrate are essential.

For low temperature application or application onto a ramp or steeply sloping surface refer manufacturer. (Winter and thixotropic grades are available)

Preparation of Substrate

Concrete

Preparation:

• Concrete surfaces must be at least 30 days old.
• Remove all contamination and detritus including oils and greases, laitance, algae, moss, etc.
• Lightly texture the surface by vacuum blasting and/or other mechanical means.
• Remove residue by vacuum.
• Deep oil contamination to be removed using hot compressed air.
• Existing thermoplastic markings to be removed or worked around.
• Dry thoroughly

Priming:

• Apply Europrime CT and allow to cure tack free (on average 9hrs).
• Apply Eurogrip Decorative within 24hrs of tack free failing which the area must be reprimed.
• If left longer than 3 days the surface should also be lightly abraded.

Bitumen Bound Materials

Preparation:

• The surface must be in reasonable condition and of sufficient strength to accept the surfacing (must not soften at high temperatures), not excessively smooth*, rutted, cracked or subject to aggregate ravelling, etc.
• It must be at least 30 days old and have a surface texture that will provide a good mechanical key eg/ SMA or open graded materials (refer to Optus).
• Sand carpet or materials using high penetration bitumen are generally unsuitable as substrates.
• Remove all contamination including oils and greases.
• Existing thermoplastic markings to be removed or worked around.
• Sweep clean to remove all dust.
• Allow to dry thoroughly.

*Depending on the condition of the surface it may require to be lightly textured.

Priming:

• No primer required.

Timber

Preparation:

• Timber must be completely dry throughout before considering treatment.
• Eurogrip should not be applied if there is any risk of water retention in the wood.
• Timber contaminated by oils and greases, etc is not suitably for treatment.
• Lightly sand and sweep/vacuum clean.
• Timber products should be sealed all round.

Priming:

• Apply Europrime CT and allow to cure tack free (on average 9hrs).
• Apply Eurogrip Decorative within 24hrs of tack free failing which the area must be reprimed.
• If left longer than 3 days the surface should also be lightly abraded.

Steel

Preparation:

• Remove all rust, mill scale and surface contamination by grit blasting and other mechanical means to a bright rust free surface (SA2½).
• Oil and grease contamination should be removed with a suitable cleaning fluid and the residue flushed off with water.
• Allow to dry thoroughly.

Priming:

• Apply Europrime FM within 4 hrs of surface preparation.
• Allow to cure tack free (on average 2 hrs).
• Eurogrip Decorative should then be applied during the following 10 hrs, failing which the area should be reprimed.

For other non-ferrous metals refer to the manufacturer.

Surfacing (Base & Aggregate Scatter)

Strict compliance with the mixing and laying procedure is critical - mixing times must not be exceeded.

Materials include Eurogrip Decorative which comes as 3 components. It is used in conjunction with the customer's chosen aggregate.

Pour the contents of Pack B into a suitable mixing vessel and mix using a drill and paddle until homogeneous. Whilst still mixing add the contents of Pack A and continue mixing for a further 20secs. Whilst still mixing slowly add the contents of Pack C and continue for 40secs until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. Mix only one unit at a time.

Pour the mixed material onto the surface and immediately spread using a serrated squeegee
- do not spread too thinly (refer to coverage rates). No areas of the substrate should show through.

Broadcast the chosen aggregate onto the surface ensuring that there is no resin showing through. Remove any tape when resin starts to gel and excess aggregate after the surface has become stable. This will vary with both product and ambient temperature.

Coverage/Cure Rate

Both coverage and cure depend on ambient and surface temperatures, the type and condition of the substrate and the aggregate temperature and size.

Eurogrip Decorative must be laid to the following coverages:

• Foot traffic: 2.0 to 2.5kg/m² (av 10.2m²/unit)
• Vehicle traffic: 2.5 to 3.0kg/m² (av 8.4m²/unit)

Aggregate loading varies with the chosen aggregate size and type.
Typically:

• Foot traffic: 5kg/m² (0.9 to 1.4mm agg)
• Vehicle traffic: 9kg/m² (1 to 3mm agg)

Note: Always ensure that there is always excess aggregate available on site to ensure full coverage prior to sweeping.

Aggregate is available in a range of natural colours and sizes and in more vivid colours as coated aggregates.

Curing times

• Initial set @ 20^oC: 1 hour
• Open to traffic @ 20^oC: 2 hours

Packaging

Eurogrip Decorative is supplied in 23 kg units and in 3 components. Packaging is 3ltr pot (pack A), 10ltr pot (pack B) and 10kg bag (pack C).
