Resitech SL 2000 AS

Description

Resitech SL 2000 AS is a unique self-levelling epoxy resin flooring system specifically designed for areas where a conductive anti-static floor surface is required.

It satisfies fully the requirements of BS 2050 : 1978, whilst retaining all the outstanding properties of epoxy resin floors - hard wearing, dust free, easy to clean with excellent chemical resistance.

Resitech SL 2000 AS is typically applied in all areas where the possibility of electrostatic charges exist, including:

  • microprocessor controlled production plants and warehouses
  • laboratories and medical rooms with electronic facilities
  • energy supply companies
  • mills and spice production plants

Surface Preparation

Concrete substrates must be at least 28 days old or have a moisture content less than 5% and be clean, dry, sound and free of laitenance, oil, grease and any other surface contamination which could impair adhesion.

Existing floor areas will require mechanical abrasion to reveal concrete. Enclosed vacuum blasting equipment or vonarx type scabblers should be used. Any areas which have been contaminated with oil or grease should be treated with hot compressed air blasting equipment. This will drive out any deep-seated contamination.

Any areas of damaged concrete should be broken out and re-instated. For small areas of thin section repairs - less than 10mm in depth - Resitech HD Repair Mortar should be used. For larger thicker section repairs a polymer reinforced cementitious repair mortar should be used. These larger repairs will need to cure for some 5-7 days before Resitech SL 2000 AS may be applied.

As a general rule, any existing floor coatings must be removed prior to the application of Resitech SL 2000 AS

Where an existing epoxy floor coating is in good condition and well bonded to the substrate, with no evidence of damage or contamination, then the surface to be coated should be abraded to provide a mechanical key for the Resitech SL 2000 AS. The surface should also be thoroughly degreased and allowed to dry.

For newly laid concrete which has been allowed to cure for the minimum 28 days, a light pass with enclosed vacuum blasting equipment is required. This will lightly texture the substrate and ensure that all laitance and the remnants of any curing membranes are removed. Older, more contaminated substrates will require a heavier pass with enclosed vacuum blasting equipment. Areas not accessible to blasting equipment should be prepared by a combination of vonarx scabblers, hand held diamond grinders and needle guns.

All dust and deleterious matter should be removed by vacuuming prior to the application of the primer.

Any flexible joints within the concrete should be protected with masking tape and brought up through the new surfacing.

The perimeter of the area being treated, along with any grids, drains etc., should be protected with masking tape.

Priming

The substrate must be thoroughly sealed with an application of Resitech Primer PS; a two component moisture tolerant solvent free epoxy resin priming system.

Resitech Primer PS is supplied in pre-weighed packages, and it is essential that all of the curing agent, pack A, is added to all of the resin component, pack B, and mixed thoroughly for 60 seconds.

The fully mixed primer should be applied immediately to the prepared substrate by brush or roller. The coverage rate will vary dependent upon the texture and porosity of the substrate, but should fall in the range of 4-6m2/litre.

The first application should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 8 hours, but no more than 24 hours, before the second coat is applied. The wet second coat should be immediately over-scattered to excess with the anti-static aggregate.

It is essential that total coverage of the wet primer is achieved with anti-static aggregate, with no bare patches visible. Any areas of low coverage can result in dramatic increase in resistivity. Eight hours after the application the excess aggregate should be swept up and removed.

Mixing and Application

Resitech SL 2000 AS is supplied in pre-weighed packs. It is essential that all of the curing agent, pack A, is added to all of the resin, pack B, and mixed thoroughly with a slow speed high torque drill and mixing paddle for sixty seconds.

Then slowly add the graded filler, component C, while mixing continues for an additional 3 minutes until a uniform smooth homogeneous consistency is achieved.

The mixed material should be poured into the primed substrate and spread to the required level by steel trowel. Immediately after trowelling, a spiked roller should be used to aid the release of air.

Any existing expansion joints should be carried through the Resitech SL 2000 AS.

Coverage Rate

A 20.5kg unit of Resitech SL 2000 AS will cover approximately 5-6m2 at 2mm.

Technical Properties

  • Tensile Strength: (BS 2782 pt 10) - 12N/mm2
  • Compressive Strength: (BS 6319 pt 2) - 45N/mm2
  • Flexural Strength: (BS 2782 pt 10) - 35N/mm2

Electrical Resistance

  • Mean Value as tested to BS 2050 : 1978 method A4,1: 3.14 x 10 5 OHMS.

Chemical Resistance

Resitech SL 2000 AS exhibits excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals, and is fully resistant to the following:

  • 10% Sulphuric Acid
  • 10% Hydrochloric Acid
  • Xylene
  • Methyl Ethyl Ketane
  • 20% Sodium Hydroxide
  • Ethylene Glycol
  • Trichlorethylene
  • Pot Life (20oC) - 30 minutes
  • Primary Cure (20oC) - 12 hours
  • Full cure (20oC) - 7 days
  • Light Traffic (20oC) - 24 hours
  • Full Traffic (20oC) - 48 hours
  • Application Temperatures - 5 - 35oC

Please note that cure times increase considerably at lower temperatures.

Cleaning

Tools should be cleaned with a hydrocarbon solvent, e.g. xylene, before initial cure has occurred.

Health and safety

It is recommended that barrier cream, gloves and overalls be worn when using Resitech SL 2000 AS. For full details please refer to the appropriate health and safety data sheets.
